Day Five

It was my first day riding with Mike and Alex. The weather was gorgeous and after an awesome time in Champaine we were all ready to hit the road. Things were going great until a mishap about 15 miles in, where Mike took a little spill. Thankfully it only produced a couple scrapes and after the hospitality of some nearby locals (namely Bree). we continued on in good spirits.

We stopped in a small town for lunch under the shelter of a gazebo, getting rest, coffee, and peanut butter sandwiches. Continuing on things became increasingly difficult but we finally made it to our destination Matoon. There after stopping in a cafe we met the godsend of the day Kieth, Who helped us out greatly by sending us to his old employer, The Alamo steakhouse, for leftover food. Though of course being as hungry as we were, we also stopped at a local soup kitchen before hand turning the evening into a pretty good feast.

After dinner we made our way a few miles out of town to camp on the beach of Paradise lake. The stars were shining and after the luxury of a campfire we tucked in for the night, Slightly on alert to the nearby howling of coyotes.

  1. Glad I could be of help guys! That's great that you were able to camp on the beach...not so great that the coyotes were nearby. Take care and let me know when you are almost to Austin.
